The 5 Themes of Geography Project, Due Sept. 2

The five themes of geography project is due on Friday, September 2, 2004.

Instructions: For each theme of geography, find a picture, illustration, drawing, diagram or anything else that provides an example of that theme. Then, write a sentence for each theme, explaining your example. Pictures from newspapers, magazines, or internet, or drawing your own pictures are okay. You may print pictures or maps from the internet as well.

Have fun and be creative/colorful!

Some ideas: A poster with pictures
A poster booklet (book format)
A multimedia presentation using powerpoint or another program to display your pictures and text. (if you elect to do this, please e-mail me your attachment or bring to class your disc)

The 5 Themes of Geography

Theme #1----LOCATION

An Absolute Location is a precise place, whereas a Relative Location is a location in relation to other places or things.

Theme #2---PLACE

Places can be distinguished by their physical surroundings (mountains, rivers, lakes, oceans, landforms, climate, vegetation, wildlife) and/or their human characteristics (religion, language, customs, culture, economy, political system)

Theme #3----HUMAN ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION

How people interact with their environment (hunting or fishing for their food, dressing to protect yourself from the sun, using a camel to travel across the desert, planting crops, going to the beach)

Theme #4-----MOVEMENT

Transportation of people, goods, and ideas

Theme #5---REGION

A region is an area with common characteristics, such as the corn belt region of the US, the Middle East region, which has a common language, religion, and climate. The central valley region of California has in common a climate and economics, as most are agriculturalists/farmers.
