After labeling the map of Israel given in class today, answer the following questions (these questions are actually on the map of Israel, with space provided to answer them)

1. Name the country located east of the West Bank

2. Name the body of water that connects the Red Sea with the Mediterranean Sea.

3. Name the land area where Jerusalem is found.

4. Name the two countries that border the Dead Sea.

5. Shade the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Golan Heights the same color because these are areas of Palestinian occupation.

Middle East Test on Friday, Dec. 2

For periods 3, 6, and 7 only...

Students in these periods will take an exam on Friday, December 2. Students should study/be familiar with the following:

1. Their map of the Middle East

2. Their map of Israel

3. Notes taken from powerpoint: Timeline of Palestine/Israel

4. Notes taken from the television video: Jerusalem and its importance to Jews, Muslims, and Christians

5. The Munich Massacre-Questions and answers

Middle East Extra Credit Opportunities

1. Create a flight itinerary to a city of several cities in the Middle East. Write the cities which you will visit, the cost of the flights, the flight numbers, times and the airlines that you will fly.

2. Create a travel itinerary for a vacation to a country in the Middle East. Once you decide what country you will visit, research what you will visit during your vacation to that country. In other words, what will you do? Write the names of the places you will visit and the cities in which they are located. Research the attractions you will visit. What are they? Why are they interesting?

4. Name the body of water that separates Saudi Arabia from Africa.

5. Name the bodies of water that touch Turkey.

Middle East Current Event

For periods 3, 6, and 7 only...

The Middle East current event assignment instructions are as follows:

1. Find a story or article about something that has occurred in any country in the Middle East.

2. Read the story/article and write a brief summary.

3. Bring the story/article and the summary to class and be prepared to share it with us.

Note: Students who do not have access to the internet or newspapers/magazines may see me during advisory or lunch any day for assistance.

New Unit-The Middle East!


Hello Everyone! Today the students began a new unit, The Middle East!

This region is sometimes called "Southwest Asia," but is more commonly called the Middle East! Some countries in the Middle East include Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Take a look at the map!

The students began today by labeling their own map of the Middle East. We will be looking at climates and populations of the Middle East, along with economics and culture in the region. Also, we will take a closer look at Israel and how this region is very important to Jews, Muslims, and Christians!

Extra Credit Opportunities India

To my students: The extra-credit opportunities listed below require research and writing a paper. Your research may be from the web or books. Your paper should be typed, computer-generated, or neatly written in ink. Your paper should be 1 to 2 pages in length and WRITTEN IN YOUR OWN WORDS! DO NOT CUT AND PASTE INFORMATION FROM A WEBSITE! If I suspect you have done this, I will terminate grading your paper! I want all of you to learn, and cutting and pasting is not learning!


1. Research the Taj Mahal, which is located in India. You might want to mention when it was built, how long did it take to build, who built it and why, what is inside the Taj Mahal, and any other facts you could find about it.

2. Research Mohandas Gandhi, the leader of India's movement for independence from Great Britain. You should mention his biographical information such as birth, education, childhood, family, and anything else you can find. Also, his importance to the Indian people and his accomplishments.

3. Research India's filmmaking industry, located in Bombay and called "Bollywood." Include in your report whatever research information you can find. Actors, actresses, movie production companies, movies, anything that you find interesting or have learned about the biggest moviemaking industry in the world, "Bollywood!"
