Students will take the Mexico/India unit test on Thursday, December 2. Students are to bring a #2 pencil to class.

What to study:

The maps of both Middle America and India. Students should be familiar with the information on the maps, such as the cities, bodies of water, mountains, and surrounding countries.

Extra Credit Assignment due by Friday 12/3

1. Research the Taj Mahal, which is in India. Write a paragraphy about the Taj, discussing when it was built, how long did it take to build, who built it and why, what is inside the Taj, and any other facts you could find about it. Your paragraph should go well beyond the basic facts that we discussed in class about it. (worth up to 20 points)


2. Research and write a one-page paper about Mohandas Gandhi, his importance to the Indian people and his accomplishments. This paper should go beyond the basic facts that are listed in the geography textbook. (worth up to 30 points)

1. Mexico's greatest natural resource is found in this region

3. The political and cultural center of Mexico, where the capital is located.

4. Lots of maquiladoras are found in this region

5. Mexico's poorest region----very few large cities and very few industries.

Students are to choose ONE of Mexico's cultural regions and write a brief summary about that region based on the information they recorded today in class on their charts. Due tomorrow!

Middle America Current Event due on Friday, November 19

Due on Friday, November 19, is the current event for Middle America. Students are to find an article, story, or photograph that relates to any country in Middle America. Students may use newspapers, magazines, or the internet to find their current event. Students must then write a brief summary about the current event.

Substitute-----students may bring in food, or something of cultural or social significance as a replacement for the current event. Students must also write a brief summary if they elect to do this.

Middle America Map Quiz set for Friday November 19

On Friday, November 19, students will take the map quiz of Middle America. Students are to study their maps of Middle America. Everything on the map is fair game for the quiz, including the countries, cities, bodies of water, and landforms.

I will give 15 points of extra credit to the first student that brings me a brief, written summary explaining how Mexico got it's name "Mexico." In other words, the origins of the name "Mexico."

New Unit begins on Tuesday, November 9

Today the students began a new unit----Middle America! This region of the world includes Mexico and the countries of Central America, such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Panama, just to name a few. Today in class the students completed a map of Middle America, which they will need in order to study for upcoming quizzes!

Students will take the Middle East Unit Test on Monday, 11/8...the test if made up of 25 multiple choice questions, map identification from the Midde East and Israel maps, and a short-answer essay portion.

What students are to review/study:

1. Their maps of the Middle East and Israel

2. The Middle East physical geography and economics chart

3. The 10 questions about religion in the Middle East (on back of the chart)

4. Life in the Deserts homwork worksheet

5. Notes about Islam's 5 pillars

6. Chart comparing Christianity to Islam

7. Notes taken from the Powerpoint presentation on the history of Palestine/Israel

8. Students need to bring their notes taken during the Jerusalem video to class on the day of the test----they may use these notes on the test.
