Africa Extra Credit Opportunities
Here are some extra credit opportunites for you-----all relating to Africa, our current unit
1. Conduct an interview with Mr. Kappia, English teacher here at Lincoln and a native African. Mr. Kappia is willing to answer your questions and is available during lunch in room 54. I suggest you prepare about 10 questions to ask him; be polite and be sure to thank him when you are done. Some suggestions for topics: Where were you born? What was life like living in your country and/or city? What do you miss most? What do you miss least? Do you still have family there? What are some fun things to do there? Is there any crime? Any special holidays? what is celebrated? Would you ever move back to live there? Submit your interview to me so that I can read it. Your interview is worth up to 20 points extra credit
2. Research an animal, bird, or reptile that is native to Africa. Your report must be at least one page in length and include detailed information about your subject. Africa has lots to choose from such as snakes, lions, elephants, and many more species of animals, birds, and reptiles. You may get your research from books, the internet, or a television show. You must write the sourse of your information at the top of your report. DO NOT CUT AND PASTE! This must be put into your own words. This report is worth up to 25 points extra credit. You may do up to 3 reports.
3. Research to find what African countries have participated in the World Cup (soccer) throughout the history of the World Cup and how those African nations have done in the World Cup soccer tournament. Worth up to 15 points
4. Write a research paper about the slave trade that took place in Africa. Your paper should be at least 2 pages in length and include detailed information about Africa's slave trade. You may use books or internet to locate information. DO NOT CUT AND PASTE! This must be put into your own words. Suggestions on information to find: Where did the slave trade take place? Who was trading slaves? Where did African slaves come from (countries)? Why were people enslaved? Worth up to 50 points.
