Imagine that you and your family were living in New Spain, later Mexico, during the time that California was being settled with missions, presidios, and pueblos. If someone were to suggest to you and your family that you should move to this new province called "California," what would be the advantages (positives) and the disadvantages (negatives) in moving to this place known as California?
