California Map Quiz set for Monday, January 30

ALL PERIODS

Students will take a geographical map quiz of California, Students should be familiar with the items they labeled on their maps of California this week. These items included important cities, bodies of water, mountain ranges, regions, and other various information.

Current Event Assignment-California!

This assignment is for California History in the 20th Century, periods 1, 3, and 6 only...

Instructions:

1. Using newspapers, magazines, or the internet, find a story or article about something that has happened anywhere in California, EXCEPT SAN JOSE.

2. Print the story/article (if using the internet) or cut it out (if using a newspaper or magazine).

3. Read the article/story, then write a brief summary about it.

4. Bring both to class (article AND summary) and be prepared to share it with the class.

Note: if you do not have access to a newspaper, magazines, or the internet, students are to see me in room 16 so that I can assist him/her.

2nd Semester Begins! Welcome to California History in the 20th Century

Hello everyone! Now that semester 1 is completed, now it's time for semester 2. That means California History in the 20th Century begins today!

Welcome to California History in the 20th Century! This is a one-semester course designed to give students a basic understanding of California from a historical perspective, with an emphasis in 20th century history.

First, students will learn about California's geography, such as bodies of water, mountain ranges, major cities, counties, highways, and regions. Our study of California History will begin with a review of some major events of pre-1900 California. This will include subjects such as Native Americans, exploration, the Spanish Period, the Gold Rush, and the Mexican-American War. After this review, we will focus on California's History in the 20th century. This will include the study of Politics, Government, the growth of Southern California, the movie industry, the Great Depression, World War II, post World War II, and Enviromental studies, just to name a few.

It should be a fun and interesting semester! Check back daily for assignments, quiz and test announcements, and extra credit.

2006 Semester 1 Final Exam Study Guide

The final exam is worth 250 points (approximately 20% of class grade)
You should study/be familiar with the following

1. Your maps of Australia/New Zealand, South America, Middle America, South Asia (India), Middle East, and Europe. (approximately 50 map identification items)

Multiple Choice Question based from the following
2. The 5 themes of geogragphy, the meaning of life expectancy and literacy rate, water terms worksheet (bay, canal, strait, ect...)

3. Australia's outback (what is it like), aborigines (powerpoint notes), Great Barrier Reef (powerpoint notes)

4. Mexico, A timeline of History and Palestine /Israel powerpoint notes

5. Your special purpose maps of Canada-bring them to the final

6. There will be various questions based from from your maps mentioned above.

Tips: Create you own study guide with the answers to help you prepare, get with other students to study, get plenty of sleep, get breakfast, and don't stress! Good Luck!
